One month of fundraising has paid off for the children of Dubbo.
Star FM’s Give Me 5 For Kids campaign raised a whopping $46,010.05 for the children’s ward at Dubbo Base Hospital.
And the community deserves a pat on the back.
The announcement was made yesterday afternoon by the Star FM radio team, lead by breakfast announcers Ali and Dazza.
“We’d like to thank the entire community for their generous support throughout the month of June,” Dazza said. “To raise these much-needed funds for the kids of Dubbo and across the region is a fantastic effort.”
Greater Western Area Health Service (GWAHS) community relations officer Peter Woodward was on hand to accept the cheque on behalf of the Dubbo Base Hospital Paedeatric Unit and was blown away by the final amount.
“I got shivers up my spine when I saw it,” Mr Woodward said.
“It is absolutely amazing for the community to raise this much money in such difficult times. Right from day one the community and campaign sponsors have got behind Star FM and helped out.
“This is the single biggest donation the children’s ward has ever received. It’s just phenomenal.”
GWAHS central cluster general manager Pam Gulbis said the money will be used to purchase vital-signs monitors for the children’s ward.
“This will help with nurses being able to provide high quality care in the children’s ward, particularly when the patient load is high,” Ms Gulbis said.
“I’d like to say a huge thank you on behalf of all the staff at Dubbo 93.5 Star FM and all the people in the community who supported the Give Me 5 For Kids campaign.”
Star FM general manager Steve Nicholas was also thrilled with the final result and thanked his work team and the community.
“This is probably the most amazing thing I have experienced in the media,” he said.
“This is an amazing effort and I had the pleasure of working with a great team who made things happen.
“It’s unbelievable.”
