INDOOR CRICKET: Following a hugely successful first year of competition, the Dubbo Stars representative teams are off to Grafton to contest the finals of the Northern NSW Super League.
Dubbo will be represented in divisions one, two and three for men.
The Northern series is contested among teams from Grafton, Inverell, Glen Innes, Coffs Harbour, Tamworth, Kempsey, Taree , Wingham, Charlestown and Dubbo, which is why it is considered, by all and sundry, to be the premier super league competition in country NSW.
For Dubbo teams to reach the finals in their first year has been a tremendous achievement.
The finals series is structured such that all games are played on the one day, this means that every game is sudden death with teams finishing third or fourth having to win three games on the trot to collect the winner’s booty.
In the top grade, where the Dubbo team has finished in second place overall after the season proper, Jeremy Dickson’s ability to keep his team focused on the overall result sees Dubbo in with a real chance of adding the Northern title to the list of achievements they have attained over the past few years.
With many of the Dubbo team this year experiencing competitions at a national level through the NSW Cyclones pathway, Dickson finds himself with a real blend of highly-skilled players of all age groups at his disposal.
The team’s young guns are headed up by Aiden Bennewith, Matt Skinner, Dan Horrocks, Jordan Peacock and Matt Fisher.
They are all potential game winners and when they are combined with the experienced Dickson, Steve Skinner and Al Horrocks, it becomes easy to see why the Dubbo team is held in such high esteem.
Dubbo will have to play the winner from the minor semi-final, Inverell, and Grafton, for the right to contest the final against Charlestown, a team who they have a one win, one loss record against from the preliminary rounds. The tip is a Dubbo victory.
