Ryan hits poker jackpot at Amaroo

THE SIDEPOT: Dianne Ryan had a big win on Sunday at the Amaroo Hotel taking home the $1000 top prize in the first super Sunday at the venue.

There was a big turnout with 68 players looking to get their share of prizes with travellers from as far as Parkes and Mudgee turning up especially for the event.

“A few times Dianne thought she was all but gone but managed to double out every time,” Katie Hughes from APL said.

When the field had dwindled down to the final 10 players, Robert Toomey went all in with Daryl Manshanden calling while Dianne threw in the extra 6000 in chips needed to call.

The flop came down 4-K-7 and Daryl went all. Dianne took about five minutes to think about her next move and eventually called to show 5-7 off-suit, with Daryl showing A-K suited and Robert Toomey A-3 off-suit.

With Daryl in the lead the turn card produced a 5 to give Dianne two pairs and succeeding in knocking out two players to make the final eight.

“Dianne was unstoppable and proceeded to knock out five players on the final table and take home the prize money,” Hughes said.

Well done Dianne, for your efforts you are this week’s APL weekly winner of a $50 fuel voucher. All Dianne has to do to redeem her prize is present this article to the tournament director at any of the local venues.

The other winners last week were Jarred Menz at the Dubbo RSL on Monday night, Nick Smith at the RSL on Tuesday, Amy Cubby at the Dubbo Railway on Wednesday, Robbie Dunn at the Amaroo on Thursday and Trevor Allan on Saturday at Dubbo Golf Club.

The weekly Australian Poker League (APL) $11 chip-up add-on events at the Amaroo will no longer be held but the monthly tournament on the last Sunday each month with a prize pool of up to $3000 will continue.

As the current season draws near the end Steven Dai holds a slender lead from Errol Toomey and Tanya John in the RSL Monday competition. In a season of consistent performances from him, Errol Toomey leads the RSL Tuesday competition.

Cherie Daniels holds an unbeatable lead in the Railway Wednesday series and also heads the list in the Amaroo Thursday games.

In the Dubbo Golf Club Saturday evening $11 chip-up add-on series Trevor Allan leads by just 13 points from Steven Dai.
