CYMS face stern test against leaders

4/07/2008 10:20:00 AM
Defending Tooheys Group 11 premiers, Dubbo CYMS will face their toughest test yet when they come up against current competition leaders Cobar on Sunday at No.1 Oval.

The Fishies are coming off two good wins against Dubbo Macquarie and Parkes Spacemen but coach Dean Pay said his team would have to dominate in every aspect of their game to overcome the strength of Cobar.

“We have had two good wins in the past fortnight and there is nothing like winning,” Pay said.

“We will have to be on our game right across the park against Cobar.

“When we play strong in every aspect of our game, we play well.”

Pay said alongside their clash with Dubbo Macquarie, Cobar would be one of their biggest games yet.

“They will be our biggest test and it will be interesting to to see the outcome on Sunday,” he said.

Pay said his team would not be over confident leading into Sunday’s match despite their recent wins.

“They knocked the cockiness right out of us the last time we met when they thrashed us,” he said.

After several weeks out due to injury, hard hitting forward Luke Lewis made a return to form last week, coming off the bench for CYMS against the Spacemen.

Lewis is expected to play again this week and Pay said he was holding up well.

“Luke’s playing well, he lacks a little match fitness but he is going alright,” Pay said.

Recent form by CYMS forward Simon Yeo has also been welcomed by the Fishies. He along with his brother Justin proved dangerous in both attack and defence last week leaving the Spacemen with little option out wide.

Matches on Sunday will kick off with the under-18s from noon with the first grade clash expected to begin at about 2.30pm.

CYMS: 1 Steve Madden, 2 Epa Navale, 3 Justin Yeo, 4 Tom Yeo, 5 Ben Bruce, 6 Claude Gordon, 7 Chris Walkom, 8 Nick Wilson, 9 Luke Jenkins, 10 Kurt Large, 11 Warren Wilson, 12 Simon Yeo, 13 Shawn Townsend. Interchange: 14 Luke Lewis, 15 Josh Flipo.

COBAR: 1 Jarrod Willoughby, 2 Paul Gauci, 3 Matt McBride, 4 Aaron Davey, 5 Sean Cox, 6 Chris Gilbert, 7 Steven Ford, 8 Adam Betts, 9 Alistair Travis, 10 Steve Lyons, 11 Chris Barnett, 12 Brett Pitkin, 13 Peter Ford. Interchange: 14 Justin Schick, 15 Scott Willoughby.
